What is KoboToolbox
KoBoToolbox is a free and open-source suite of tools designed for field data collection in challenging environments. Widely used by humanitarian workers, aid professionals, and researchers, it enables reliable and efficient data gathering, especially in crisis situations such as natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies. Developed by the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, KoBoToolbox addresses the critical need for quick and accurate data collection, which is essential for understanding and responding to the needs of vulnerable populations. Our team, based in Cambridge, MA, actively conducts large-scale surveys in regions like DR Congo, Uganda, East Timor, Burundi, and the Central African Republic using our own tools.
In September 2014, we launched a major update in collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to enhance standardization, reliability, and ease of use in humanitarian data collection. Continuous updates and new features ensure that KoBoToolbox remains a powerful and relevant solution for fieldwork professionals. KoBoToolbox is funded entirely by grants and donations from our generous partners. KoboToolbox was founded in 2005 by Phuong Pham and Patrick Vinck, now faculty at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
